Mayor's Office Update on Home Collapse (1000 W. Cross Street)

BALTIMORE, MD (Sunday, January 17, 2021) — This morning, a private vacant building located at 1000 W. Cross Street fully collapsed. The Mayor’s Office is on the scene and is coordinating with the Housing Department and the Red Cross to provide support to the community. A building inspector is also present to assess the safety of nearby buildings.
Crews are on their way to clear the streets and sidewalks of debris. Any remaining portions of the structure that pose an imminent threat will be made safe. Additionally, the property will be fenced or blocked off to prevent access.
The site will be made safe today. Work to fully remove the debris and complete any necessary demolition work may continue into tomorrow. When completed, the site will be filled, seeded and strawed.
